The idea of having an official Pre-Med Club at Mesa Community College at the Dobson & Southern campus was first initiated at the end of year 2007 which was proposed by a student named Will Longhurst in collaborations with the Professor of Life Sciences, Dr. Lewis Obermiller. The club wasn't officiated until the mid-Spring semester of 2008 along with Longhurst being the first club president.
The club advisor is primary Dr. Obermiller and for a brief time, an adjunct faculty, Lynn Keating stepped in while Dr. Obermiller was away and awaited for his return in the Spring semester of 2010. Since then, Dr. Obermiller has been the academic advisor for the club.
Originally, the Pre-Med Club was known as, 'The Mesa Community College Pre-Medical Forum." At the time the term, forum seemed appropriate because it was a common area where business was to be conducted, interactions would occur and ideas were to be exchanged.
Since 2008, the club aspires to be of a useful resource for in which students attending Mesa Community College could engage in to gain insights in the process of applying to medical schools, attend field trips to medical school campuses, meet and ask questions with practicing physicians, medical school representatives and so forth as guest speakers, engage in volunteer opportunities and so on.
Below are the previous and current logos that were designed and used to represent the Pre-Med Club.
The previous logo (pictured left) represented the club since 2008 to the Spring semester of 2013. On the logo, the quote, "Ad Augusta Per Angusta" comes from Latin and denotes the meaning: through difficulties to honors.
The second logo (pictured right) is the current logo representing the club starting the Fall of 2013 Semester. It was designed by Kimberly N. Dang (Spring 2013 Media Officer), colour coordinated by Nicole Erjavic (Spring 2013 Vice President), graphically edited by Dennis Martinez and Fajar Kristianto in assistance with Nat Wik.
